Paige:Hey Alex, Thanks so much for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to do this interview!
Alex: well... its no problem... I cancelled my dinner with the president, because frankly the guy's an asshole
Paige :How did you come up with the name Atrocity Asylum?
Alex:So I like this band called Joy Division. You may have heard them. Ian Curtis is one of my many idols. Ahem but anyway I was considering naming the band after a Joy Division song called Atrocity Exhibition. So it's not entirely original. I figured all the cool kids are doing it, so I'd give it a shot... then to make it less obvious, Exhibition became Asylum
Paige Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Alex :Wow
Alex :the list goes on
Alex: lets see
Alex:Morrissey, the Smith, Deine Lakaien, Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Robert Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, Douglas Peirce, Andi Sex Gang, Anna Varney, and Rozz Williams in a big way
Paige: Very cool! and it only took you about a half hour to type out..
Alex: haha oh yes and David Bowie!
Alex I could go on but I'll stop
Alex: ONE MORE
Alex:Brian Eno
Alex: haha
Paige anyone else that you're forgetting?
Alex: probably
Paige: moving on,
Alex: oh come on I was having fun!
Paige: Fine, one more...
Alex: no
Alex: please
Alex: move on
Alex: haha
Paige :How would you describe your sound?
Alex:Tough one. So as you may know, I'm very heavily influenced by gothic artists. Not Manson, or Slipknot, or those hot topic core shit bands that try to pass theirselves off as goth with their 300 ton pants... sorry... the goth rant... I digress. Pretty much it has the chilled out doom and gloom aspects with crazy background noise. I like to experement with tribal drums and I recently got a tambourine
Paige: Owhh a tambourine! That is very exciting.
Paige:Didn't the blonde girl from josie and the pussy cats play the tambourine?
Paige:..Mel..?
:
Alex- hah Someone did, but I don't remember. I didn't like those mystery cartoons as a kid. They pissed me off, because you really couldnt find the clues. You just guessed. You have Thelma saying "We knew it was old man Jenkins when we found the missing roll of duct tape on his back!" Well shit! We didnt see it! The cartoonists were too lazy to draw it in!
Paige : That's true. Do you remember "Jabber Jaw" the cartoon with the shark?
Alex:Haha... yeah. That show was a big rip off. Jabber Jaw did the woob woob woob woob woob, thing from the 3 stooges... and his friend looked like Scooba Shaggy from Scooby Doo
:
Paige: I think he ended up eating them...
Paige ::anyways, back to the music!
Alex: Might be a good idea
Paige: What inspires you to write your lyrics?
Alex:: SIGH!!!!! So it goes back to when I was... 12? No actually I was probably 14. I really liked this band called AFI. Davey Havok, the singer of the band influenced me to be a poet. From there my music taste got better, and I found better influences in writting and making good music. Rozz Williams is my biggest influence now. I love all of his work.
Paige: Can i expect a song titled "Paige" in the future? lol
Alex: Paige, you broke my heart. Like a jelly tart... It's so yummy in my tummy... Paige! I blacked my eyes... haha ummm bye bye bye!
Paige: wow! I have my own song!!
Alex: makeshift emo
Paige: You better record that song and put it on myspace.
Alex: I forget in 10 minutes
Paige:: I'll remind you.
Paige:hahaha
Paige :When are you going to be coming out with an album?
Alex: Who knows. Being famous and all *COUGH COUGH* I'm very busy all the time. Actually I planned on having a demo finished by the end of July. An ep of some sort in August, then maybe I can do some live shows in some bars. It's some good family fun. Then they leave def! Blood gushing out their ears... but in the end... It was I who got the last laugh.
Paige: So you're not planning on any U.S tours this fall?
Alex: Assuming I get nationally reknown for whatever reason, then maybe. I'd love to have that adventure, but people just lack good music taste these days. Thats why the radio plays shit like The Used, Manson, and Fall Out Boy.
Paige: Speaking of the radio, Is it true that you've been seen out recently with Avril Lavigne?
Alex: Avril!?!? I wish! She's my idol! Only next to My Chemical Romance. Lyke oh my gawd! I listen to music based on how the artists look not on how the music sounds.
Paige :lol sarcasm is my favorite :-D
Alex: Hah, what can I say? I'm no fan of modern culture
Paige: Are you ready for your last question?
Alex: They're not curable
Alex: I'm sorry
Alex: yes I am
Paige: what's not curable?
Alex:Crabs
Paige:...oh dear..
Paige well, i hope everything....gets better...
Paige Here's your last question..
Paige Are you going to tell all your friends about thegraveyardgirls.com?
Alex:I already have. Unfortunately the problem is, my friends are kind of invisible. You cant see them... or hear them... I can. But I will. I'll tell the world in a song called The Graveyard Girls count on that release
:
Paige: Owhh i'm looking forward to it!
Paige:Thanks again for the interview.
Paige: any last words?
Alex: Insert words of wisdom here. A fortune cookie told me everyone should listen to Atrocity Asylum once. This prophecy. Unfullfilled. So lets go skinny dipping
