Interview with Oh Hush!

How many members are currently in Oh Hush! ?
That is a really good question! And I don't know the answer to it because we still haven't settled on that just yet. I could tell you how many people have been "involved" with Oh, Hush! (but I won't). There's been a number, and the list continues to grow. Since we aren't really a "band" just yet (ie, we don't play shows or anything), we still haven't sorted out the member thing. We do have people committed to tour with this thing should we decide to do that. To answer your question, I select e) i dont have enough information to give an answer. (That's NEVER the right answer on a test question!!?!?)
What gave you the idea of concealing your identitys? And why did you decide to do so?
I'd like to think of it not so much as "concealing our identities" but rather focusing 100% on THE MUSIC!! We started this project with two goals in mind: 1) that it would be ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC and 2) it would be ALL ABOUT THE FANS!! And we wanted to do all of that under the idea of having FUN!! We want people to form their opinion about Oh, Hush! based entirely on the songs.. not on who's in the band, who's not in the band, what we look like, what we don't look like, etc. Love us or hate us, but do it based on the music!! The identity thing has become FUN for everyone and that's great. We want people to have fun with this!! But ultimately, it's the music that drives this thing because if people didn't like the songs, no one would care who was in the band!
How are you going to go about playing live shows? Will you be wearing masks?;-)
That is a good question that we haven't figured out just yet! We try not to do too much planning or thinking. We just make it up as we go and so far that's served us well. We've joked around a bit about the live show and talked about masks or talked about playing behind a screen or a sheet or something. Or maybe we can have a bunch of actors go on stage and we'll be off stage actually playing the music. The live show is definitely still a big question mark. We're open to any ideas you might have for sure! :-)
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Certainly the bands in our top friends have been huge influences on us. The Book of Butch Walker needs to be read by anyone who wants to take music seriously!! Cobra Starship's first record was groundbreaking! We love The Academy Is... We're really into a lot of pop music these days. Pink's latest album is killer! Justin Timberlake is the new king of pop! Rihanna's latest record is amazing!! We are also heavily influenced by none other than the great Mr. Charles Shaw!
Are there any female members in the band?
The "members" question is a little sticky. But I can indeed confirm to you that 2 separate girls have performed on 2 different Oh, Hush! tracks. One of them sang a small part in "Look At Me" and another sang a duet with me on "Shh.. I've Got A Secret." They are both amazing and both are 10 times better singers than I ever pretend to be!!
What do you all enjoy doing in your spare time?
Spare time? What's that?? Between Oh, Hush! and every other project or band people are working on I don't think anyone has a whole lot of spare time. I know that most of my "spare time" is spent in front of the computer trying to catch up on Oh, Hush! myspace messages/comments or answering questions in our blogs. And if I really have some spare time, I try to work on some new songs!! I'm lying, I do have some spare time. I try to workout whenever I can. I like to cook a lot. I can't wait for LOST to come back on (assuming this stupid sexxy writer's strike ends!?!?). In the meantime I've been spending a lot of time watching all of the past episodes of The Office! I try to stay as far away from music as I can in my off time.
How would you describe your sound?
This is always really hard. But someone once described us as: the retro of the 60s, the disco of the 70s, the new wave and anthems of the 80s, the grunge of the 90s, all while in the 00s
Do you guys have any fun suprises coming out for 2008?
Do we ever!! Lots n Lots!! Actually, December should be really action packed for surprises and contests!! But we're hoping to release our debut record in early 2008!! Stay tuned for more details!
Will you be coming out with a full length album anytime soon?
Haha. I should have saved my previous answer for this question! Definitely planning to release a record early 2008! Working on the rest of the songs for it right now. No time to shop this Christmas, all time must be spent in the studio working on songs!!
How did it make you feel when the ridiculous statement was made that you are "conning your fans" ?
We definitely got a good kick out of that one! We definitely learned there's no such thing as negative press!! All press is good press!! That was by far our biggest traffic day on our myspace page (nearly 10,000 hits to our page that day!). Several record labels called us. It was great! The statement was actually pretty ridiculous. It was a libelous statement made by an "anonymous source" - certainly, if the source had any credibility, they would have provided a name. And to make a ridiculous statement about "conning" fans and then not provide any evidence was just comical. If writing cool songs that people dig and involving our fans in everything we do is "conning" then we are indeed guilty as charged! All of our fans know what we're all about and know that there was zero validity to that "conning" statement.
What is your connection with "Fueled by Ramen" & "Decay Dance"?
Well our latest connection with Fueled By Ramen is that Bob from The Hush Sound recently posted a bulletin on myspace telling people to check out our Christmas song he thought it was fun and liked my voice!
Last question, Are you going to tell all your friends about thegraveyardgirls.com?
You betcha! Thanks so much for the interview and we'll definitely spread the word!!
Thanks again! Be sure to check out Oh Hush on myspace.com!
